Setup
From install to your first synced workbook in about three minutes. No configuration files, no IT ticket for most teams.
What you need
- A monday.com account (any plan) where you can add views to a board.
- A Microsoft account with OneDrive or SharePoint — work/school (Microsoft 365) or personal.
Steps
- Install the app from the monday.com marketplace (or your admin's share link).
- Open a board you want in Excel → click + next to the view tabs → Apps → Excel Sync.
- Connect monday.com — click the connect link in the view. A popup asks you to authorize the app for your account. One authorization covers every board on the account.
- Connect Microsoft — same flow, second link. Sign in with the account whose OneDrive/SharePoint should hold the workbook. You can connect more than one Microsoft account later.
- Pick your columns. The view lists the board's columns; check the ones you want in Excel. The item name is always included.
- Create workbook & sync. The app creates a new
.xlsxin OneDrive named after your board, writes every item into an Excel table, and shows the run result. Click Open ↗ to see it in Excel.
The app never overwrites an existing file. New workbooks are created with a unique name — if
Roadmap.xlsx exists, you get Roadmap 1.xlsx.After the first sync
- Set a schedule so the workbook refreshes itself.
- Build your report in the same workbook: formulas, pivot tables, and charts that reference the synced table keep working across syncs.
- Importing a spreadsheet into a board instead? See Mapping for the Excel → board direction.
Working with IT-restricted Microsoft tenants
If your organization requires admin consent for new apps, your Microsoft sign-in will say approval is needed. Ask your Microsoft 365 admin to grant consent for Excel Sync; the permissions requested are limited to files the app creates or that you pick (see Security & data handling).
